Today is Father's Day - a day when we remember our own fathers and those who have been father figures to us. Whether those memories are joyful or tinged with sadness we can all give thanks to our Father in Heaven. God has revealed himself to us as a loving community, a Father who loves his Son with a love that overflows to each one of us.
I love the opening 10 chapters of the Book of Proverbs - it's a Father speaking to his Son, teaching him to follow the way of wisdom rather than the path of folly, it's a call to follow God's ways rather than the ways of the world. There are many children growing up in our world without fathers and many more without fathers who will teach them the way of wisdom in this world.
We've now had two meetings of our new Dads & Tots group, and have made contact with 31 dads in the process. We meet again next week - Saturday 25 June - for play, crafts and chat alongside some coffee and bacon! Our great desire is that Dads & Tots might be the first step to seeing more dads taking up the challenge of Proverbs, to be fathers who teach their children God's way of wisdom in this world. Who could you give an invitation to?
