Earlier this year the Queen celebrated her actual birthday, but this weekend has been designated as a time of national celebration of her life and reign. For many in our country, Her Majesty has been a constant presence in our national life – she has been our Queen for longer than I, and many of us, have been alive!
Two things stand out for me about Queen Elizabeth II. First, her quiet, but determined dedication to the service of this country and the commonwealth. On her 21st birthday, she famously said: I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong. None can deny that she has kept faith with that vow over the years.
The second thing is the genuineness of her faith in Christ and her willingness to be identified as a believer and a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. What a tremendous encouragement she has been to us. Many happy returns, Your Majesty.
