Add an upbeat gospel tempo, hand clapping and vigorous sidestepping and it becomes something truly uplifting.
But if all that isn’t enough, those of us taking part in Saturday’s gospel singing workshop were the first to experience a new chapter at All Saints Church — the pews gone, replaced by chairs!
The singing workshop was a brilliant event to mark the new flexibility offered by the re-ordering.
More than 100 people from church and the surrounding community joined together to sing gospel music.
Karen Gibson, one of the UK’s leading Gospel Choir conductors, led us.
And after a full day of learning new songs the participants formed an impressive choir and put on a concert for delighted family and friends.
It really was a day to make the spirits soar — for those in the choir and also the audience who hadn’t realised they would be invited to participate too.
As several people said afterwards: “It was glorious.”
Thank you to everyone involved in organising the day especially Chris Steynor who also accompanied us on the keyboard.
- If you would like to take part in a gospel singing workshop the next one will be held on Saturday 10 June.
