No way, not me! That was my response in February 2011. But here I am now half-way through training with my ordination in the Church of England set, God willing, for 2016.
There are different ways to be trained for ordination. Some choose residential training away from home. But St Mellitus College, now the biggest college for ordinands, offers a full time mixed-mode scheme where academic study is combined with work in a parish setting. That’s what I opted for. So each Monday I go to London for lectures and classes from 8.30am until 4.30pm. I have a second study day each week and six weekend residentials packed full of teaching. In the rest of the week alongside caring for my family I serve at All Saints, learning the practical side of ordained ministry from James and Stuart.
