That proved to be a penny-dropping moment for me who, up to that time had planned a whole series of exotic (not to say exhausting) things for my own sabbatical. The whole idea of a Sabbath is, of course, rest and replenishment, of ceasing from the usual routine activities that one ordinarily engages in and taking the opportunity to read, reflect, pray and draw close to God.
I shall be in Bermuda for a month (May 16th to June 16th) and I am looking forward to assisting the bishop in his ministry, particularly in helping with some lay and clergy training. But I am also looking forward to time for unhurried study, reading and reflection which will refocus and replenish me for the next period of leadership at All Saints. There is much to be done in the next few years and I want to come back fully refreshed and re-energised for what God is calling us to do as a church as we implement our Reach > Build > Send MAP. Stuart & Adam will steer the ship whilst I am away – please support and encourage them.
