By the time you read this, we will have had our time for reflection for Advent (yesterday, Saturday) - an opportunity to draw aside from the rush and busy-ness of life in order to spend time with God. Now that December is upon us, the pace of commercial pressure will quicken in the run up to
25 December. It is therefore especially important that we take time each day—some time, however short—in Advent to prepare ourselves spiritually for the great festival of the incarnation. Take a longer walk each day (a dog might help—I can lend you one!), eat a bit less, sleep a bit longer, keep some regular intervals of silence and prayer in your day - and make a conscious decision to start today.
The Lord and his own
‘The Christian hope ... is more than the expectation that the King is coming; it is also the belief that when he comes, the Christian dead will come with him, and the Christian living will join them’ (John Stott, The Message of Thessalonians)
Return to Work
Steph Sayers will be returning to work after maternity leave from the start of December in a revised role, focussing on ministry amongst children. She will be working with Good News Club leaders and other children’s and families’ groups, supporting the excellent work that goes on week by week. We have been very encouraged by all that has been happening recently and we pray that Steph will give added support and encouragement to the group leaders.
Please pray for Steph and her family as she takes on this new role.
