Yet, one billion people are still living on less than £1.25 a day. Unfortunately the way we live is fuelling poverty, changing our climate and damaging the planet, hitting the poor in a devastating way.
What can we do as individuals to stop this getting worse? Tearfund suggests we pray, consume purposefully and lobby more. You can find out more at: www.tearfund.org/about_you/campaign
In practice this could mean for example: buy Fairtrade goods, fly less, switch to 100% renewable electricity, eat less meat, use less water, wear ethically made clothes, and buy fish from sustainable sources. You may think that your efforts won’t make much difference; be reassured that as we do this together it will.
In the near future, we plan to gather a group of people at All Saints who are interested in taking forward these ideas collectively.
I am reminded of John 10:10 “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” and I would encourage us all with Tearfund’s mission: “To follow Jesus, where the need is greatest”.
